Description

This is a very rare antique
American figural toothpick holder
c1880 which has a baker placing the do in a barrel or bucket. I also have a napkin ring similar to this for sale elesewhere. See picture below.
It is marked as Made by james W. Tufts with the production number 2690.
The figural napkin ring refrred to above is
shown in the book by Gottschalk and Whitson's book "
Figural napkin Rings: Collectors Identification and Value Guild
", on page 281 in plate 695. They valued it at 0 to 0 in 1996, over 20 years ago.
This figural toothpick holder is
in very good
condition
.
I have not polished it; just washed it in warm soapy water.
There is no great damage. The bucket has some dents. one can be starighten out with your thumbs. I took photos before so will leave it as is. There is also a dent in the bucket/barrel close to the baker man. There are some small spots of silverplate loss and scratches but I would still say the silverplating is in excellent condition overall. This is like 130-140 years old.
Please look at the photos (which form part of the description) and ask any questions if you have any concerns.
