Description
Serial number 21-0832. This 24K gold gilded 2100 Powell flute with B foot, w/18K gold Powell crown, pointed key cup arms, open hole keys, and drawn tone holes, all hand-made has Schmidt gold professional pads installed. This flute comes in its original wooden case. The marquetry inlay on the face of the French style flute case, the gold plating, and the Schmidt gold professional pads are all added. The 18K gold headjoint crown replaces the silver original. This flute is the most resonant flute that I have ever played, the keys (without the corrosion prone ferrous disks that plagued this model for years) are light and fluid, ounces lighter than stock to allow the fastest play. Force = Mass times Acceleration, lighter keywork means faster playing. The more mass an object has, the more force you need to accelerate it. The keywork is pinned because this traditional design is the lightest available on a normal instrument.* The sound has the brilliance & projection of silver and glimmering gold. The sound is best described as FANTASTIC. However, to my ear, the 18K solid gold Powell crown adds only slight resonance improvement if any to the tone of this fine instrument. Similarly, 24K gold plating inside and out adds only very slightly more color to the tone and is there primarily to ease maintenance. That being said, inadvertent damage to the gold plate can be repaired by any competent jeweler because it is 24K gold and need not be matched. The flute comes with an ultralight, dust proof, waterproof carbon-fiber flute case over-case with room for the included swab stick/tuning rod and included new Blintz metal care kit. There is plenty of room for your electronic tracking device. A beautiful new-old-stock velvet lined dark blue leather Reunion Blues gig bag comes with this fine instrument in addition to the carbon fiber, waterproof, dust proof over-case.
*The Matit Brothers' flute (which I designed as a young man and sent to all fine flute makers worldwide) replaces pads with on-the-barrel gaskets and uses carbon fiber keys.
