This headjoint produces bright, big sound with power suitable for orchestral players. The response is 100% immediate, no delay. The sound is crisp and clean.
The headjoint is beautiful J.R. Lafin Au15 (which stands for 15% Aurum, i.e. gold) Ag85 (which stands for 85% Argentum, i.e. silver) headjoint with a 14K rose gold riser and 14K rose gold Adler wings. The 14K rose gold ring and the 10K rose gold threaded post on the crown add substantial weight to the crown and result in richer sound. The tubing of the entire headjoint is 15% almost pure gold and 85% almost pure silver. The Adler wings make for easier, cleaner, and clearer articulation, their purpose is to channel any "stray" air to the embouchure and help the headjoint to play evenly in all the registers. The added gold in the Au15/Ag85 tubing and the solid 14K gold riser and wings create a warm round sound such as gold would normally produce, however the addition of the silver in the 15/85 tubing composite retain the clarity and brilliance/shimmer of the sound of an all-silver flute, yet with a warm core.
The headjoint sounds as beautiful as it looks. It projects well, and is at home in all musical settings and with all styles of music. The articulation on this headjoint is in a word --- amazing. It articulates very effortlessly and cleanly. Staccatos are very clean, light, and crystal clear. Accents and sfz and ppp to fff are effective, clean and easy to produce. It is truly delightful to play!
Depending on the width of the top opening on the body of your flute, you might need to resize the tenon of this headjoint to fit your flute (this can be done by any certified flute technician, however no returns if any alternations are made). Comes as shown, nothing else included.
